The new Wild Thing

I'm debating getting up early (for me) to get on a train for the trek to Coney Island for the Cyclones' nooner. It's a matter of how much sleep I want to deprive myself, depending on when I get home tonight.

In any case, I unfortunately will not be able to see Randy Consuegra, he of the 270.00 ERA and 30.00 WHIP.

Yes, those numbers are correct. And here are some more: one-third of an inning. Two starts. Zero hits allowed. Ten runs (all earned). Ten walks. Seems impossible, no?

I had to see how this could happen, so it was on to the play-by-play on MiLB.com.

His first start, on June 21:

Tri-City Top 1st
And his second, five days later:

Tri-City Bottom 1st
So that's how it happens. One game story after the second start mentioned four pitches that nearly hit a batter in the head. In his first start, he threw four wild pitches, making it tough for even the opposition to watch.

Consuegra -- who is the godson of Edgar Renteria -- is on the inactive list (I couldn't find a story about that move) for Lowell, so it may be some time before he has a chance to lower that ERA.

Wow, that's bad. I can't believe he got a second chance.
